I often, but not exclusively, meet with leaders. I focus on individual direction and supervising other spiritual directors. I am both Mennonite and an oblate of the Monastery of the Risen Christ in San Luis Obispo, California, which is Camaldolese Benedictine. I am married.

Education: D.Min. in Christian Spirituality (Columbia Theological, 2007), training in spiritual direction (San Francisco Theological, 1999), training in supervision from Together in the Mystery, 2016.

Since 1996, I taught the spiritual direction courses at Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, 2013-25; plus, a supervision course at Fordham University, 2023-24.

Spiritual direction happens when one person helps another person to become more aware of God and offer their consent to God. The process is intended to be compassionate, contemplative, and evocative.
